Thanks to Adam Wragg for all his help over the years – he has designed a book that I am very proud of. I must also thank everyone at BHP Publishing – especially Darren Banks and Lucy Arbuthnott. Darren burnt many candles at both ends! Thank you all.
This book has been a big part of my life for the last thirty years. Having it published is a dream come true. I have given this project my all, it has been thoroughly researched and the result is the definitive record of Great Auclum speed trials and hillclimbs.

I have described the background to the events that led to motor racing coming to Berkshire in 1938. Key Auclum personalities are profiled too, including Patsy Burt, David and Peter Boshier-Jones, David Good, Roy Lane, and local drivers Major Charles Lambton, Dr Roger Willoughby and Sir Nick Williamson. Full entry lists and results for each event are also included – making the book a valuable resource for researchers.

At over 400 pages with hundreds of unpublished monochrome and colour photographs, this book will be of interest to motor racing enthusiasts – not just the hillclimbing community. The book covers the sport in Great Britain between the 1930s and 1970s. Many historically significant cars and people competed at Great Auclum or were involved in the Auclum story – such as Colin Chapman, Bruce McLaren, Stirling Moss and Roy Salvadori.
Thank you for your response. ✨
